ABC – Always Be Cute

Life is a balancing act, making adulting hard.

You’ve got to go to work, pay your bills, respond to text messages (all 15 different group chats), keep your skin clear, have your hair and nails done always, play with your pets (kids if you have them) even when you’re dead tired, go to the gym, drink water, eat your veggies, be nice, smile even when you don’t want to, and get through everything on your DVR. There’s always going to be a lot to do, but you just have to understand how to navigate life and make time for the things that are important to you, but most importantly look cute while doing it!

Life’s always easier when you’re confident and cute.

I snatched up this silky duster from the sale rack at Francesca’s. If you’ve watched my Instagram Stories lately, you’ll know I’ve been obsessed with the Francesca’s sale rack, finding some items for only a penny. YES, ONE CENT! This outerwear wasn’t one of my one cent items but, who can resist any type of sale?

So the next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a moment to just breathe and look through your closet and pull out your cutest outfit and go on about your day. Because, as my dear friend Andrea says, “ABC – always be cute.” xoxo

Jillicious Charms with Meaning

You might not know it, but there are people out there rooting for you. When I had my second interview with my current employer, I thought I totally bombed it. It was a phone interview with the VP of HR and I was actually at my old job rushing to a client sight. Distracted, I felt like my answers weren’t completely on point, but little did I know I’d get a call just a few short weeks later offering me the position of Recruiting Manager.

I of course accepted the offer and began a new chapter in life. Just a few months into my position, I learned that the VP of HR was totally rooting for me. Not just in my new position, but also in life. She was aware of my blog and sent me the nicest note along with an ice cream charm necklace from Jillicous Charms and Accessories to blog about. She knew blogging and fashion are two of my passions and whether she did this intentionally or not, she was totally an inspiration to keep up with blogging. There was a time when I wanted to throw in the towel. I have taken a bit of a break and these recent weather conditions haven’t been exactly ideal for #ootd photo shoots, but I’m jumping back on the horse and doing what I need to do. So thank you, Ellen! Thank you for rooting for me. Thank you for being such an inspiration inside and outside of work, and thank so much for the necklace!

I rocked this adorable ice cream necklace when I went to MOIC LA in December. It will forever be a reminder of the amazing time I had, but most of all, the importance of doing what you love. Don’t stop, because there’s always someone out there rooting for you whether you know it or not. BTW, this was literally THE BEST ice cream I’ve ever had in life.

AdDRESSing Your Confidence

Dresses are a fantastic feature of any wardrobe. Whether you’re a girly girl, or a tomboy at heart, wearing a classy number now and again can feel amazing. The right dress is a power symbol, like a decent car, or a flashy watch. The perfect dress ensures you’ll turn every head in a room. No matter your tastes, that power is sure to feel great.

But, sometimes, we all go through a bit of a wobbly when it comes to dresses. They’re a clothing choice which needs a fair bit of confidence. There’s no getting around the fact that you’ll have to show more of your body in a dress than you may at other times. And, that takes guts! But, it usually does pay off. If you’re having a crisis about the prom dresses you can’t get yourself to try on, or just a dress for a business meeting, you’ve come to the right place. We’re going to look at a few ways you can address your lack of dress confidence, and get back into the swing of things.

Do the prep

As mentioned above, wearing a dress means showing more of yourself than you may be accustomed to. That can be tough. But, if you know you that those parts are primed, you’ll find the exposure much easier to deal with. Obviously, your first step should be to shave and moisturize your legs. If you have the confidence to reveal the fuzz, then good for you. But, most of us can’t go that far, and even one day’s worth of growth can stop us reaching for that dress. So, make sure to shave before you even attempt getting your legs out. Think, too, about applying some fake tan. You don’t want to over the top here, but a sun-kissed glow is always a great way to bolster your confidence.

Small practice sessions

Like anything, dress confidence is all about practice. If you jump straight in with a big event, you may struggle to find the necessary courage to go all out. But, if you get into the habit of wearing a dress for small trips, you’ll soon get used to the exposure. So, instead of waiting for your next night out, wear that dress to the shop, or on a walk around the block. In no time, you’ll feel much more comfortable. You may even start to crave the freedom dress wearing offers.

Believe you look good

There’s no denying that this is easier said than done, but believing you look good in dresses is a sure way to find your awesome. Half of the battle with a dress is the way you wear it. If you don’t believe you’re owning that outfit, your posture will become hunched and defensive. That kind of thing really shows with a revealing dress. Instead, believe you look terrific. Hold your head high, and your back straight, and strut your stuff. Before you know it, your belief is sure to come true.

Monochromatic Magic

Monochromatic: Containing or using one color. It’s fashion – look it up!

But seriously, this is my first time toying with a monochrome look and I think I’m obsessed. This plum color is sleek and sexy and perfect for fall.

Of course you can play with other colors like camel and olive green; or even pink and lime green. The color wheel is your oyster!

I paired this Fashion Nova bomber jacket with a super comfy, velvet Forever 21 bodysuit with jeans and over the knee boots from Target. Each piece was purchased separately but hanging near each other in my closet, I knew I had to at least attempt the look.

Check out your closet for a monochromatic look. Let me know how you play with one color.

Steal my look:
