NYFW SS16 Collection Reviews

I have been admiring the New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016 Collections from behind a computer screen this past week, but I have full intentions to return to NYFW in February!

As some of you may know, I used to attend NYFW regularly, but after several seasons of the same chaotic atmosphere and what seemed to be looking like the same collections over and over; coupled with the restricting of the event, I decided to take a leave of absence from the jungle that is Fashion Week. But thanks to social media, I was granted a glimpse of what the revamped NYVW is like, and I think I enjoy what I ‘ve seen.

There is no longer a main venue for runway shows like Bryant Park or Lincoln Center, and the shows seem to have taken on a more creative approach making it more about the brand as a whole, and not just the clothing. I was extremely impressed by many of the collections this season and I am excited to see what designers come up with for February.

Check out 7 of my favorite NYFW SS16 Collections below:

This collection was fun and flirty with hints of 70s safari inspired pieces.
Christian Siriano –
Christian Siriano
Christian Siriano is one of my all-time favorite American designers. And it’s not just because we were basically wearing the same shoes the day we met at his adorable little boutique in SoHo. This collection came with clean lines, fabulous structure, muted colors, and as always, hints of drama.
Kate Spade –
Kate Spade
Kate Spade represents the fabulous girly girl that lives in us all, and I pretty much want everything in this SS/16 collection!
Tadashi Shoji-
Another one of my all-time favorite designers, Tadashi has the ability to create such effortlessly elegant pieces. His SS/16 collection was able to mix elegance with sporty with lots blues and whites. Just absolutely beautiful!
Jenny Packham –
Jenny Packham
This collection with sleek and sexy, and fun and flirty. There were a mix of pieces for every woman.
Yeezy Season 2-
Let’s be real. On the runway, we all know the collection resembled apocalyptic hobo chic, but separately all of the pieces are very wearable. The bomber jackets paired with jeans, or the bottoms with an easy tee – why not? I personally think this collection has great potential and was somewhat inspiring despite its negative reviews.
Custo Barcelona –
Custo Barcelona
This collection was made up of perfect prints! Several of the pieces are light and airy; like a sexy beach party and the 70s were invited.

Whiskey Business

When life gives you a Thug Life Shirt, you put it on and you rock it! Thug Life Shirts is a small apparel company making a big statement with its humorous shirts and tees. And thanks to Thug Life Shirts, I get to rock my new favorite motto in the form of fashion – “Rather Be Someone’s Shot of Whiskey Than Everyone’s Cup of Tea”

As you may know, I love a good cocktail, and a perfect pint of beer; but I really do fancy a delicious shot of Whiskey! Tullamore Dew is my favorite to be exact. Thanks to my special shot of whiskey for introducing me to this drink of choice. 😉

Thug Life Shirts offers pages of t-shirt options with phrases we’re all thinking but don’t always say, like, “Y’all Need Jesus” or “I’m a Lady With the Vocabulary of a Well Educated Sailor” and even “My Neck, My Back, My Netfix & My Snacks”

Head on over to Thug Life shirts and pick which shirt best represents you. And while you’re at it, feel free to use the coupon code FAB10 for a hot little discount (10% off your purchase)!

Drink responsibly and enjoy your tees!

Two Designers You Need to Know

I have had the privilege of attending Fashion In Detroit for three of the four years it has been in existence and I have to say, this has been its best year yet! And after attending this year’s Fashion In Detroit festivities, I feel compelled to share with you two spectacular designers: Joe Faris and Peter Soronen.

Joe Faris:

You may remember Joe Faris, creator of Fashion In Detroit, from Season 5 of Project Runway. He is back in the Motor City creating unisex collections but the detailing of his men’s garments are what really stands out. During Fashion In Detroit, Faris debuted his collection in collaboration with Dodge and I was personally in awe of the detailing on each of the male leather and bomber jackets. Cross stitching, buttons, zippers and color played key roles in the Dodge collection mixing fashion with function for a gritty Motor City feel. You can see some of his detailed work for the Joe Faris Detroit collection which will be available for purchase soon.

Peter Soronen:

Peter Soronen is a demi-couturier hailing from the mitten and now a designer to the stars. Soronen is known as the “Corset King” and has the ability to create impeccable dresses for women that celebrate the feminine form. At Fashion In Detroit, the crowed was in awe of his attention to patterns and fit.

Kenzo Resort 2015

When I remember my dreams, they are typically incredibly random; and in my dream the other night, I remembered hanging out with my gal pal Miley Cyrus as we ate peanut butter and made friendship bracelets. Don’t ask me why, it just happened! Another part of the dream I faintly remember is shopping for items from Kenzo. Perhaps this was a premonition? Later that day I checked Style.com only to see the Kenzo Resort 2015 collection had debuted. I am fan of Kenzo, which is the high end fashion line accredited to making the graphic sweatshirt popular, and this collection new is fierce and fun!

For the 2015 Kenzo Resort collection, we see lots of blue with playful geometric patterns and an underlying sporty theme. Patterns including lines and circles dominate along with abstract cut pieces.

Kenzo 3

The collection was inspired by the designers of the collection being foreigners in Paris. Kenzo Takada explains the collection is about, “embracing our outsider status in Paris.” Tourist attractions like the Eifel Tower and The World Trade Center were showcased on buttons to pay homage to a traveler in a new city.

Kenzo Polka Dots

The willing looks for me though were the accessories. Pops of pink and color blocked cross body bags added a dramatic touch pulling the entire collection together.

NYFW F/W 2014: The Best Looks

New York Fashion Week has come to a dramatic close and alas, I took to style.com to get fabulous collection updates.

Check out my favorite looks from NYFW F/W 2014:

Marisa Webb’s collection was all about girls on-the-go and this grey coat is the perfect statement to a fast-paced lifestyle. I want. I need.

Marissa Webb

Ralph Lauren introduced a new Polo collection for women with a diverse offering. My favorite look in particular was this simple but super cute ensemble reminiscent of an easy day in Paris.

Polo Ralph Lauren

Bold and structured, this look by J. Mendel is totally sexy in the most classy way. The entire collection brought sophistication and sass, two things I admire.

J. Mendel

Clearly I have a thing for Ralph Lauren and grey as another NYFW favorite comes from the Ralph Lauren collection. There’s just something about the flow of this monochrome look that sums up perfection.

Ralph Lauren

This Christian Siriano take on the LBD is sleek and sexy. Siriano noted that his muse for the collection was Lisa Fonssagrives and Lisa effortlessly resonates in this look from head to toe.
