Spring is all about change. It’s about rebirth and growth and the promise of lighter days, plus it’s time to think about shedding those layers and updating our wardrobes. With that, there are some small changes we can make to our life to prepare our bodies and minds for spring.
Work on your smile.
Smiling has a positive effect on the brain. When we smile, mood-enhancing chemicals are released.
It’s a good time to pay attention to our teeth.
Go to the dentist and book in a cleaning. Invest in a good electric toothbrush. Do your teeth need whitening? Use a natural whitener rather than harsh chemicals. The cosmetic dentist Dr. Michael Tam recommends a paste of strawberries and baking soda.
Winter causes a lot of damage to the skin.
Cold weather and central heating can have a drying effect, leaving your skin looking lifeless and dull. To fix that, all you need is gentle skin care products and a good moisturizer to help soothe your skin.
Drink water. Yes, this seems to make it onto every beauty and healthcare list. You know you need to do it, so just do it. Get into the habit of keeping a bottle of water in your bag, in your car, and at your desk at work. Drink it throughout the day and first thing in the morning.
Revise your makeup.
Take a good look in your makeup bag. Go through everything and throw away anything that has passed its use-by date because makeup can attract bacteria which is transferred to the skin. Also wash your brushes, sponges and applicators. They also attract dirt and bacteria.
Read about the color trends for SS16. Spend time going through magazines and blogs.
Pick out the elements that appeal to you and tailor your makeup accordingly. Rather than becoming a slave to fashion, use the trends as a source of inspiration. Only adopt the recommendations that fit in with your personal style. Unless of course, you’re looking for a dramatic change. Instead of using your makeup as a mask, use it to enhance your features.
Review and revise your wardrobe.
It’s time to go through your wardrobe and clear away winter items. Don’t be too ruthless at this stage, though. Keep back a few sweaters and cardigans since the weather is unpredictable right now. It’s worth holding onto some items for chilly days.
Unpack your spring / summer clothes and decide what you’re going to keep. Is there anything that doesn’t work for you anymore? If so, donate to charity!
Review your exercise regime.
During the winter months there’s much temptation to be lazy. It’s cold out there and it’s easy to sit back on the sofa and watch TV. But as the weather improves and the days become longer there’s no excuse.
Pick out new recipes.
It’s time to ditch the winter stews and hearty casseroles. Pay attention to what’s in season and put together new meal ideas.
Spring is a magical time of year. We can see changes all around us and something shifts in our brain. It’s a time to review and rethink. A time for possibilities.
