Ladies and gentlemen, I recently hit a very important life milestone. I popped my hair color cherry!
When I was about 12 years old, I had my mom sign a contract saying she would let me dye my hair once I turned 16. But once I actually turned 16, the thought of dying my hair didn’t seem appealing anymore. I turned 18, then 21 and dying my hair still wasn’t on my to-do list. But I turned 26 and that little contract crossed my mind again.
I was starting to get quite bored with my super thick head of hair and thought a dash of color would be the perfect change. I went back and forth for months though on whether or not I should get hair color. You would not believe how scared I was to just get highlights. I’m a girl with 6 tattoos. Those things are on me for life but it took me forever to build up the courage to make a change to myself that will only last about 6-8 weeks. But my amazing hair stylist put it best, “Our hair is our security blanket.”
She’s certainly right! I have so much hair I was scared if anything went wrong it would be 10 times more noticeable and if I hated it, more work would need to be done to fix it.
But long story short, because this is getting quite lengthy, my friends and family supported and pushed me to finally get partial highlights!
I didn’t want anything too drastic it being my first time and all, so I figured something subtle and natural looking would be the perfect first-time look.
My trusted stylist, Lisa of Aqua Salon Royal Oak, was super excited to de-flower my colorless head. She understood exactly what I wanted and completely agreed that starting off subtle would be the best option.
I couldn’t be happier with the results and can’t believe how scared I was. While in the styling chair we were even talking about future color ideas! I am very excited now for this colorful hair journey! Thanks, Lisa! 🙂
